Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation: SEARCH helps communities to reduce vulnerabilities and build resilience to the impacts of climate change. SEARCH builds and strengthens CBO/NGO and local institutions capacities for vulnerability assessment and adaptation planning, and supports local efforts to integrate climate change adaptation measures into development planning and ecosystem management practices. SEARCH also promotes sustainable land-use management and reduced emissions from deforestation and degradation, bridging adaptation and mitigation.

Natural Resource Management: Recognizing the riches of the ecosystem of the country it serves and the fragile conditions due to unhampered environmental destruction taking place, SEARCH assists communities to manage their natural resources properly. The program trains/organize communities, groups and institutions for the protection and conservation of natural resources and its management through capacity building, raising awareness, policy advocacy, partnership and community based initiatives.

Environmental Education: Using modern communication techniques, we strive to educate the public about environmental issues in communities across the country by developing materials and programs that bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding.

Sustainable Livelihoods: Traditionally the village economy thrived because of the relationship that existed between agriculture and animal care, fisheries and agro-based small enterprises with rural artisans. SEARCH provides training using hands-on methods through organic farming demonstration plots, agro-pastoral farms, relay cropping, Bio fertilizers, pesticides, soil conservation, seed preservation, water and energy management, vermi-compost, vegetable cultivation, medicinal garden, agro-forestry, livestock and poultry management, in-land fishing, cadge and pan culture fishing, micro-irrigation techniques and marketing strategies.

Rural Reconstruction: SEARCH’s rural re-construction program has set on a mission of enabling local communities for self-governance, management of habitat and influencing public policy through the four-fold approach (education, social services, gender and governance).

Emergency Relief Program: Life involves unforeseen events which one can only predict occurrence but not timeframe. For the majority of the rural poor or homeless or disadvantaged families, living means simply planning for day to day or week to week. Contingency planning is not part of life and thus, when natural disaster strikes, they are the most affected. In some rural areas, help is not immediate or secondary due to lack of infrastructure to support trucks for delivery of relief from larger international relief or rescue NGO’s.

SEARCH’s ERP [Emergency Relief Program] offers aid and relief to areas where accessibility is more limited and with greater hardship due to lack of infrastructure. In the event of natural catastrophe, SEARCH's ERP provides food, clothing, medicine and small monetary aid directly to children and families who were affected by natural disaster - such as floods, earthquakes, droughts etc.
Our ERP is focusing the four stages of Disaster:

  • Rescue
  • Relief / Response
  • Rehabilitation / Reconstruction
  • Recovery

Community Based-Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM): SEARCH trains communities, groups and institutions that are in need of appropriate development and operational frameworks in managing the risks of disasters at the community level, as well as basic skills and tools for CBDRM and contingency Planning. It has gained a wealth of experiences and expertise in CRDRM having been a part of communities that were devastated by the massive disaster of flood 2010-2011.
